Bihar Plays Big On Sports Infrastructure With ₹574 crore International Stadium In Patna
Patna is set to receive a ₹574.33-crore international sports complex in the Punpun block, marking one of the largest sports infrastructure projects in the state.

Khelo India 7th edition, held across Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai, highlighted Bihar's sporting architectural potential, thereby inspiring major financial sanction for the same in the state’s budget.
According to Arvind Kumar Choudhary, Additional Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat Department, “Bihar has made significant progress in sports. These initiatives will help nurture young athletes, improve training standards, and create opportunities for sports events on a large scale.“
One such major allocation in the Bihar budget 2025-26 was the sanction of ₹574.33 crores for a 100-acre international stadium facility in the Punpun block of Patna. The Bihar government had estimated a timeline of 3 years for the construction of the largest sports complex in Bihar.

Multi phased land procurement funding
The construction involved allocations for land acquisition in multilayered steps, with an initial ₹44 crores sanctioned in early September 2025, paving the way for another ₹100 crores released in late September. A final ₹100 crore fund was sanctioned in February 2026, summing up to a total of ₹244 crores spent for land procurement. The multisport facility shall have accessibility to host games of 22 genres along with Olympic-level training facilities.
Centre’s push to transform Bihar’s sporting ecosystem
Coupled with advancements of the cricketing culture in Rajgir through the construction of an international cricket stadium and sports university, Bihar aims to emerge as a major sports hub to host national and international events while promoting grassroots-level participation. 252 block-level stadiums worth ₹373 crores have been sanctioned for the regional talent accessibility. Events like the Hero AISA Cup hockey tournament hosted in Rajgir highlight the state’s potential in aspiring to build Olympic-level athletes by 2032.
