Calicut University Announces Allocation Of 35 Acres For ₹500 Crore FIFA Standard Stadium
University of Calicut has announced the allocation of 35 acres of land at Thenhipalam to build a ₹500-crore FIFA-compliant international football stadium

With the premier of the Kerala football league on the brink, Calicut makes it to the headlines in an attempt to strengthen its position on the state's sporting map with substantial institutional action.
The syndicate of Calicut University has formally announced the allocation of 35 acres of land for the proposed construction of a ₹500 crore FIFA-compliant international stadium on the Malabar coast. The land is located beside the national highway at Thenhipalam at the Malappuram-Kozhikode district border.
Inside the anatomy of the project
Specificities of the location involve being at a 9 km land stretch from Calicut International Airport and in close proximity to two railway stations, thereby making it a strategic decision on the grounds of accessibility and connectivity. The allocation has been made in a differentiated model with the allotment made on the conditions of the authority maintained by the university.
As per the blueprint created by the Sports Kerala Foundation, the project shall accommodate a 50,000 seating capacity and shall form the pivot for the larger sports complex around it. The complex shall include a swimming pool, accommodation facilities for the athletes, and a fitness center.
Expanding the state's sports development framework
The facility shall bridge the gap between Kerala's strong football culture and quality infrastructure to aid the same. It shall provide local accessibility to a FIFA-compliant ground, thereby supporting the budding athletic potential. The allocation has been made in line with the state's initiative of "One Panchayat, One Playground," whereby every panchayat shall receive a designated sports ground as part of the broader ₹1200 crore allocation to boost fitness and aid social issues.
