Chahwanda Stadium Rises in Kwekwe as Zimbabwe’s Sports Vision Accelerates
The 15,000-seat Chahwanda Stadium is rapidly transforming Kwekwe’s sporting landscape.

Zimbabwe’s Second Republic sports infrastructure push has taken a dramatic leap forward with the rapid rise of the state-of-the-art Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe. The 15,000-capacity arena is fast becoming a landmark project, symbolising a powerful shift toward private-sector participation in national sports development.
The privately funded stadium is the brainchild of Shepherd Chahwanda, the businessman behind Hardrock Football Club, which competes in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League. When finished, the facility will serve as the home ground for the newly promoted Hardrock FC. Chahwanda envisions a 15,000-seat sporting landmark designed for elite competition. The official opening is expected toward the end of February 2026.

The approach mirrors a global trend where sports advancement is increasingly driven by public-private partnerships (PPPs).
Beyond football: Second Republic’s broader sports infrastructure push
The Chahwanda Stadium is conceived as a complete football venue with modern amenities to support both players and spectators. It will feature a secondary B-arena, a clubhouse, professional changing rooms, and more than 24 ablution facilities with eight-seater toilets. Premium additions include a Presidential suite, a clinic, and a dedicated ZIFA house.
The seating plan comprises four sections: a VVIP stand that includes the Presidential suite, a VIP stand with a media room and player changing areas, and two other public stands.
