Deputy CM: Ahmedabad To Witness Major Sports Infrastructure Development Ahead Of Commonwealth 2030
Ahmedabad is preparing for a major sports infrastructure transformation ahead of the proposed 2030 Commonwealth Games, with projects worth ₹1,278 crore planned across the city

As the city of Ahmedabad reshapes its sporting playbook to achieve its goal of the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar twin city model, the targeted infrastructural haul worth ₹1278 crore shall have a lasting legacy surpassing the event.
“The idea after the conduct of the Commonwealth Games is to transform infrastructure into Sports City to make it a sports hub in the interest of athletes," Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said while replying to a query by UNI during an interaction with media from Jammu and Kashmir on a tour of Gujarat.
Flagship projects under development
Anchored around the world's largest cricket arena, Narendra Modi Stadium, Sardar Vallabhai Sports Enclave shall be the star of the show with its marvelous 50,000-capacity football stadium, 12,000-seat aquatic center, and 18,000-seat indoor arena. The marquee project shall blend elite training centers with community spaces, making it suitable for both athletes and public recreation.
Apart from this, the Ahmedabad municipal corporation recently revamped a party hall to create a state-of-the-art sports complex at Shahpur worth ₹7.31 crore, constituting a gymnasium, yoga hall, table tennis area, martial arts targeted space, and badminton court, predicted to serve more than 1,00,000 youth in the coming decade. A ₹10.36 crore board-based swimming pool and gym project spread across 6284 square meters contributes to dedicated fitness and aquatic infrastructure in the city's ambition.
These projects are well complemented by a much-needed connectivity grid being built in terms of metro expansion along the southwest Ahmedabad sports arena corridor.
Plans are also in place for creating an Olympic village providing accommodation for thousands of athletes, para-athlete training facilities, and centers of excellence. The Ahmedabad makeover shall aid Gujarat in emerging as a manufacturing hub with the development of 25 GIDCs, aided by an emphasis on ease of doing business in the broader picture.
