District-wise sports facilities in Jammu & Kashmir as per Economic Survey 2025-26
The Economic Survey 2025–26 highlights a sustained push by the Centre and the J&K administration to strengthen sports infrastructure

Jammu & Kashmir and the central government have been investing heavily in developing sports infrastructure in the UT. More than 100 projects were previously initiated through the Jammu and Kashmir Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (JKIDFC), with over ₹400 crore dedicated to sports upgrades. over ₹150 crore approved under the Capex budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year alone. The youth participation is also increasing day by day, and the youth are moving away from militancy and drugs. Recent data reveals district-wise sports facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar tops the list
According to reports, Srinagar tops the list with around 76 facilities, including 21 synthetic turfs. Though the Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya has cleared before the parliament that there is no proposal to establish a National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) for Water Sports, the district of Srinagar has one water sports centre as well. Srinagar also has 4 stadiums and 3 indoor complexes. This shows how much urban development Kashmir is going through.
Jammu and Kathua
Jammu ranks second in Jammu and Kashmir with 57 sports facilities and leads the region in core competitive infrastructure, boasting the highest number of stadiums (9) and indoor complexes (5), along with 12 synthetic turfs, reinforcing its position as a major centre for organised sports. Kathua follows closely with 52 facilities and stands out for having the highest number of playing fields (24) in the Union Territory; it is also one of only two districts equipped with a water sports centre, indicating a relatively diversified sports infrastructure base. Recently, 14th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Championship 2026 was successfully held at the Sports Stadium, Kathua.
The ‘Southern’ Surge
In south Kashmir, Anantnag emerges as one of the better-equipped districts with 39 facilities, supported by four synthetic turfs and two stadiums, while Pulwama follows closely with 37 facilities and stands out for its relatively strong competitive base, featuring seven stadiums and seven synthetic turfs. Kulgam has 27 facilities. Shopian also has 26 facilities but limited depth, with just one indoor complex and four synthetic turfs.
Northern Kashmir potential
Baramulla, with 31 facilities and three stadiums, lags in access to modern playing surfaces, having only three synthetic turfs. Bandipora has just 11 facilities each and no synthetic turfs. Kupwara ranks at the bottom with just nine facilities, lacking any stadium and having only one indoor complex. Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal has 28 facilities, largely comprising playing fields, along with two stadiums and four synthetic turfs
Outside Kashmir, witnessing major developments
Poonch records 32 facilities, including five stadiums and three synthetic turfs, indicating moderate development despite its border location. Rajouri, with 26 facilities, shows limited indoor and turf infrastructure, pointing to significant scope for expansion. Udhampur accounts for 23 facilities, including two stadiums and two indoor complexes, but has only two synthetic turfs, while Samba, with 22 facilities, is dominated by playing fields and has four synthetic turfs with minimal indoor infrastructure.
Reasi has just 11 facilities, each and no synthetic turfs, while Doda and Kishtwar report 12 and 13 facilities respectively. Ramban remains among the least-equipped districts with 10 facilities and only one synthetic turf.
