A new era for Eklavya Centers as Bihar revitalizes sports excellence
By transforming Eklavya Sports Training Centers into modern hubs of excellence, the government is ensuring that local talent receives world-class coaching, nutrition, and education for free.

The Sports Department of the Bihar Government is leading the way towards a change in the sporting ecosystem in the state. The department under the stewardship of Secretary Mahendra Kumar has introduced a strong monitoring and modernization program, which is dedicated to the Eklavya Sports Training Centers with the vision of transforming Bihar into a hub of national and international sporting talent.
A Clamp of Iron and Online Responsibility
In a highly official weekly review meeting at Vikas Bhawan, Secretary Kumar made it very clear to District Sports Officers (DSOs) that regular and intensive field inspections should be given top priority. The authorities should not limit themselves to just the administrative control, but practically observe the real situation of these centers on the ground. This involves checking attendance of the students, residential hygiene, checking food quality in messes, and the effectiveness of designated coaches.

The department is also using technology to make it accountable by way of the Management Information System (MIS). DSOs will now be expected to make weekly electronic updates; data absence will be taken to mean failure to do the weekly field visits as required.
The Network of Excellence enlargement
The redesign of the infrastructure is also grand. The Eklavya centers are opening up gradually after a duration of strategic upgrades. The network has already developed to 32 active centers, a major spike from the previous 23 centers, and the ultimate aim is 68 centers statewide. The facilities are aimed at creating a comprehensive atmosphere to serve both the rural and urban youths, including free education, healthcare, and special nutrition, with the addition of modern sports training.
Community and Resource Management
Moreover, the department is closing the divide between infrastructure and society. The government is also opening up block-level outdoor stadiums and panchayat-level grounds to more use by coordinating with the local sports associations. This combination of collaborative style and nominal fee training structure is the reason that ensures that the available state resources are used to the fullest capacity, and a sense of discipline in sports culture is created.
With the help of open online applications and selection trials that are based on merit, Bihar is finally making sure that it is levelling out the playing field when it comes to its prospective champions.
