Goa Gets Next-Generation Cricket Facility At Cuncolim
Sports Authority of Goa inaugurated a next-generation cricket practice facility at Cuncolim, marking a fresh boost for grassroots cricket infrastructure in the region

After the adrenaline of the zooming cars at the Indian Racing League, which hosted a temporary track built at Manohar International Airport, Goa is now shifting to stumps as it inaugurates its latest cricket practice facility at Cuncolim. The sports authority of Goa has inaugurated a next-generation cricket facility in the Tilamol sports ground in Concolim.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar cut the ribbon for the new pitch, accompanied by MLA Yuri Alemao, Polita Carneiro, CMC Acting Chairperson Anthony Vaz, and other dignitaries, as he commemorated the legacy of the Cuncolim ground from his earlier days as sports minister for the Lusofonia Games. In the face of funding shortages, the minister has declared support from the tribal welfare department, especially in areas with significant tribal populations.
Facility blueprint and core details
The facility includes a professional-standard net practice pitch customized to support cricket’s growing popularity in the area and shall enhance the local batting and balling skills. The pitch in specific has quality turf and a cricket-specific surface along with multiple practice lanes and a fenced perimeter. A new toilet block and sanitary amenities have also been created adjacent to the nets to support long practice sessions.
Aligned to the government's broader plan
Reinstating the project vision of providing accessible quality to the budding athletes and encouraging cricket, MLA Alemao also announced the soon-to-be-inaugurated futsal ground at Maricoto and more projects to be unfurled at Guirdolim, Macazana, and Paroda.
“We remain committed to community welfare by improving sports infrastructure and providing modern facilities that give young people better opportunities to excel. I am confident that these projects will soon take shape and significantly boost sports development in the area,” Alemao said.
