Hoima Rises as Uganda’s AFCON Showpiece Stadium
As preparations intensify for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027, co-host Uganda has unveiled the state-of-the-art Hoima City Stadium

With the African Cup of Nations knocking on the doors, its host countries of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania have accelerated their sports infrastructural renaissance. Right after one of its kind Teriyat High Altitude Training Center, Uganda has delivered yet another infrastructural marvel in the form of the Hoima City Stadium, located 200 km west of Kampala.

Blueprint of the infrastructural marvel
The project cost $130 million USD, which was sanctioned by the Ugandan government.The stadium shall host a massive 20,000 spectator seating capacity with another 2,000-seater mini arena. Diverse sporting objectives have been achieved at the complex with the semi-Olympic swimming pool, basketball courts, and volleyball area.
The facility has been built in compliance with FIFA and CAF with 839 parking spaces.The stadium has been built under the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract, which was won by the Turkish firm M/S Summa. The construction had started back in September 2024, but President Yoweri Museveni had commissioned the stadium as part of the country's AFCON preparations later in 2025.

“When we took on the responsibility of hosting AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Tanzania, we realized we could not afford to be embarrassed. We said we must do what it takes so that when visitors come, we have everything ready. This AFCON has stimulated us to do something here. If you want to understand prioritization, come to Hoima and look at this stadium,” President Museveni said.
“Knowing where we have come from as a country, Hoima City Stadium is a testament to what we can accomplish together when peace and stability prevail. We simply become unstoppable," said Maama Janet.
