Karnataka Strengthens Regional Sports With Mandya Based Multisport Facility
Mandya will host a new ₹14-crore multisport facility under the Khelo India to strengthen grassroots sports infrastructure.

Providing financial security to its athletes, Karnataka’s recent scheme of availing 2% reservations in government posts for recognised medal winners highlighted the state's intent in promoting sports excellence.
Union minister for heavy industries and steel H. D. Kumaraswamy declared a new multisports facility in Mandya during an inspection of the University of Agricultural Sciences' VC Farm. The project shall be funded by the Union government under the Khelo India initiative with an estimated cost of 14 crores. The project shall be constructed in a phased manner starting on 1.5 acres of land, with the foresight to expand the area to 5 acres in the future. The primary goal of the project is to increase grassroots-level accessibility to meet the inadequacy of quality sports infrastructure at the regional level.
“We are taking steps to encourage rural children to take up sports. However, more land is required to provide additional sports facilities here. We hope the state government will provide the required land,” he said.
Expanding regional sports ecosystem
Other similar initiatives include the Kreedangana Sports Management partnering with the ICICI Foundation to build regional sports infrastructure for cricket, football and kabaddi across 15 government schools based in the Mysore, Chamarajanagar, and Chitradurga districts of Karnataka. Surya Kreeda Gram is another 80,000-seat cricket stadium declared by the Karnataka Housing Board to nurture young athletes. The 2350 crore worth project shall pose a great economic catalyst for the area as well as aid in decentralising elite sports infrastructure from Bengaluru.
