“Dumbest Basketball Team in the History of Civilization”: NBA Legend Gives Blunt Evaluation to Spurs After 2026 NBA Finals Game 4
San Antonio Spurs lost the Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals even with a massive lead of 29 points.

Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals was the most-watched Game 3 in 28 years, and with the Spurs pulling off a dominant win by their biggest margin yet, the hype heading into Game 4 was through the roof. But those high expectations came crashing down fast, leaving fans absolutely furious after San Antonio threw away a 29-point lead and lost by a single point. NBA legends didn't hold back either, and their reactions were as brutal as the collapse itself.
"We saw the dumbest basketball team in the history of civilisation," former Philadelphia 76ers forward Charles Barkley said.

And honestly, a lot of people would agree with him.
A Downfall of Their Own Making
The Spurs had this game wrapped up, or so it seemed. They built a jaw-dropping 71-42 lead at their peak and were still up by more than 20 points heading into the fourth quarter. Then everything unravelled. San Antonio managed just 30 points in the second half while the Knicks went on a 58-point tear. The Spurs had been feasting on three-pointers early on, but once the shots stopped falling, their decision-making went from questionable to outright baffling.
The final nail in the coffin came courtesy of De'Aaron Fox. With the Spurs holding a 106-105 lead and just 14 seconds on the clock, after a defensive stop that should have been the beginning of the end for New York, Fox inexplicably pushed the pace and went up for a layup that OG Anunoby swatted away. New York got the ball back, and Anunoby finished the comeback by tipping in a missed Jalen Brunsonshot with barely a second remaining. Game over. Stunned silence from the Spurs, absolute pandemonium from the Knicks.
Chuck Has Never Been Shy
This isn't the first time Barkley has gone scorched earth on an NBA team. Back in March 2026, he called the Los Angeles Lakers "solid" before quickly adding they were neither a good team nor a contender. Typical Chuck.
Then in May, speaking on The Dan Patrick Show on X, he set his sights on the Golden State Warriors.
"The Warriors haven't been relevant for three or four years. They've been in the play-in, and when you're in the play-in, you're not in the playoffs," Barkley said. "The Warriors have been in the play-in for four straight years, so they've been irrelevant. Old people don't get healthy, old people die."
With the Knicks now up 3-1 and one win away from ending a 53-year title drought, the Spurs head back home to San Antonio needing to figure out fast what went so catastrophically wrong before this series slips away entirely.
