Spread across 25 acres, a high-tech sports city with world-class infrastructure and cutting-edge design is taking shape. These 17 stadiums prioritize versatility, supporting elite training, competitions, and community programs.
Strategic Location with international collaboration
Kuniya has a solution to the infrastructure deficit of North Kerala. The region has provided talents in hockey and athletics, yet it does not have facilities of a similar magnitude to those in Trivandrum or Kochi. The project will incorporate trends in urban planning that enhance the local economy in terms of the creation of jobs, tourism, and events, replicating the success of those in sports hubs in India.
Discussions with Liverpool FC are an indication of international aspirations, which may involve training camps and training schools. This form of tie-up would bring in Premier League know-how, which is in line with the Indian initiative towards international sports collaboration to promote their home setup.
Timeline and Broader Significance
Phased construction is to start soon, with groundwork prepared, and full operations are aimed at completion by 2029. Kuniya Sports City is an example of how a government scheme can be complemented by a privatized innovation to create a talent pipeline and sports-related initiatives to strengthen the region and empower youth in Kerala.
