Meghalaya Cabinet Clears Revised Costs for National Games Sports Projects
The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved revised cost estimates for key venues ahead of the 39th National Games. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

A pivotal move toward hosting the 39th National Games saw Meghalaya’s Cabinet approve revised cost estimates for several major sports infrastructure projects across the state, as preparations for the national event intensify.
The decision came during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla told reporters that the revised approvals cover multiple key venues linked to the Games.“The cabinet has approved updated cost estimates for infrastructure, including the Aquatic and Tennis Complex Umsawli, the Hostel Block Umsawli, Sunny Hills in Tura, and the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletic Stadium in Tura,” Shylla said.
He noted that the revisions were necessary because project costs exceeded the 25 percent threshold requiring Cabinet approval. The escalation, he added, followed additional requirements recommended during inspections by the Indian Olympic Association, such as the construction of a practice pool, a dedicated diving pool, and expanded seating to meet national event standards.
Revised estimates cover major National Games venues
The updated clearances apply to the Aquatic and Tennis Complex at Umsawli, the adjacent Hostel Block at Umsawli, Sunny Hills in Tura, and Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma Athletic Stadium in Tura. These projects are central to Meghalaya’s infrastructure plan for the 39th National Games.
Officials said the enhancements aim to ensure the venues meet the competitive standards required for a multi-sport national event, boosting athlete preparedness, spectator experience, and overall operational readiness ahead of the Games.
