Puducherry Pushes Strategic Action Plan to Transform Sports Infrastructure Across the Union Territory
Puducherry has unveiled a comprehensive action plan to strengthen sports infrastructure across the Union Territory.

Raising the curtains for a bold new agenda, the Puducherry government is set to expand the sports infrastructure of the territory. A major push is provided by the government, hand in hand to Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, for crafting an action plan to cover 30 Constituent Assemblies with one play field each.
The list containing the proposed venue has been tabled before the Union government for demanding funding under the umbrella of Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment. The inclusion of public private partnership model will be the new armour for raising funds, as reflected by the authorities, by stating that “ we have asked for funds to the tune of ₹200 crore from the centre for the purpose and the government will take up some projects using its own funds and through a public-private partnership model.”
New sports infrastructure and advancements Premeditated by Officials
Under the action plan, governments have proposed these significant advancements for upgrade:
- Multipurpose hall for Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Judo, boxing, weightlifting and yoga hall.
- An athletic track, a volleyball court which is both indoor and outdoor with floodlights, and a football field.
- A multi-purpose hall in the Mother Teresa Institute of Health Sciences, Bhartidasan governement college, G.H.S. Karamanikuppam and the Puducherry Technological University.
- Indoor volleyball court with gallery in Navalr Nedunchezhian College Ground.
- A football field, 400 metres athletic track, a hockey field, and a skating rink in Tagore Arts College Ground
- Synthetic tennis court at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Uppalam.
- An open play field just behind the govt. High school, Saram
- A football field with a gallery and floodlights at Ozhukarai and Orleanpet, specially reserved for girls
- Open gymnasium at Beach Road
With about ₹6.87 crores, orders have been passed to do renovation work for the damaged synthetic hockey field with the construction of a gallery at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Uppalam.
