Spain vs Peru: Luis De la Fuente's Boys Make a Comfortable Victory Against Peru before Beginning the World Cup Campaign
Spain wrapped up their 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations with a commanding 3-1 victory over Peru in Puebla, Mexico. Pedri and Mikel Oyarzabal starred in a dominant display of high pressing and ball control

Spain showed the world their masterclass and why their opponents should be prepared. Playing the last warm-up friendly game before the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Peru, Spain outclassed their opposition, scoring 3-1 in the Estadio Cuauhtémoc. As part of the preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it’s clear why everyone is expecting much from Spain, under Luis de la Fuente, going into the World Cup tournament.
Even after missing important players like Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams due to minor injuries, La Roja clearly displayed their squad depth and gave a statement that they have options for every problem they face.
Oyarzabal Strikes Early
Spain wasted absolutely no time asserting their dominance. Just two minutes into the match, centre-back Pau Cubarsí threaded a sharp pass to Mikel Oyarzabal. Operating with total freedom, the Real Sociedad forward took a few measured strides before unleashing a sensational left-footed strike from outside the box. The ball curled perfectly into the bottom right corner, leaving Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese completely helpless and giving Spain an immediate 1-0 lead.
The Pedri Masterclass
While Oyarzabal offered early attacking brilliance, it was Pedri who determined the tempo of the game throughout. As an important player in the Spanish midfield along with Rodri, Pedri proved to be the heart of the Spanish offence, orchestrating the midfield effortlessly and splitting the defensive line with ease.
The tremendous effort put in by Pedri bore fruit in the 32nd minute. After some quick passing from the Spanish players that left the Peruvians dazed, Ferran Torres charged down the right wing and delivered a perfect pass in front of goal. Pedri obliged by firing into the roof of the net from close range to double the lead going into half-time.
An Own Goal and a Consolation Prize
During the second period, the Spanish side continued with their dominance over ball possession by making use of their high pressing formation to confine the Peruvians in their half of the field. Their tactics led to another shocking mistake from the South American side during the 53rd minute when Yeremy Pino's delivery to the penalty box resulted in an unfortunate own goal after the ball was deflected by Pedro Gallese, gifting Spain a 3-0 lead via an unfortunate own goal.
Credit must be given to the Peru team for trying hard throughout the game. In the 66th minute mark, a quick counterattack from Peru led to a fantastic effort from Jairo Velez to finally get the much-desired goal and reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Sportscape believes that even though Spain conceded one goal, they were pretty much in control of the game, and when the two star wingers make a comeback into the team, this Spanish side will be hard to beat.
