Sri Lanka vs West Indies: West Indies Outclassed as Nissanka and Mendis Unleash ODI Carnage in Series Opener
Sri Lanka defeated the host team by 41 runs in the opening Sri Lanka vs West Indies ODI match, driven by a massive batting stand from Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis.

Sri Lanka beat the West Indies in the first One Day International by 41 runs on Wednesday. They scored 303 for 7 after batting first, then dismissed the West Indies for 262 in the last over. This win gives Sri Lanka an early 1-0 lead in the three-match series happening in Kingston.
Sri Lanka performed really well, largely because of that key 136-run partnership at the second wicket. They stumbled a bit when Kamindu Mendis was out for just 12 in the seventh over. But Pathum Nissanka and captain Kusal Mendis turned things around quickly. Kusal Mendis went aggressive, smashing 72 off 62 balls, while Nissanka took a more cautious approach, making 79 from 102 deliveries.
When the West Indies lost their main partnership, they really needed more wickets in the middle overs. But Sri Lanka's batsmen in the middle order kept things frustrating for the home team's bowlers. They kept the runs coming without giving away many wickets. Asith Aliantha and Janith Liyanage did well; he made 45 runs, and Janith Liyanage stayed unbeaten at 44 runs. The 64-run stand they formed for the fifth wicket helped Sri Lanka easily pass 300 runs.
The West Indies began their run chase with Justin Greaves blasting 45 runs from 38 balls. Captain Shai Hope added 56 runs off 66, keeping things steady. They built a decent foundation, putting up 50 runs for the first wicket and 52 for the third. Yet, Sri Lanka's bowlers kept things tight, picking up wickets at key moments and stopping any real flow in their batting
With the run rate climbing, the West Indies lower order couldn't muster much of a comeback. Roston Chase hit 33 runs for some late resistance, but he was dismissed by fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, sealing the deal. Chameera was the star of the show, taking 4 wickets and giving up only 67 runs. A brief pause from a floodlight issue late in the game didn't change anything since the outcome was already settled for Sri Lanka.
Sportscape Believe that the opening match, Sri Lanka's partnership at the top of the order outclassed the West Indies. If the hosts can't figure out how to take consistent wickets during the middle overs, Sri Lanka will control both the pace and outcome of the series.
