Assam’s Sports Hub Vision Gains Ground with Sribhumi DSA Upgrade

CM Himanta has prepared a detailed and thorough plan for Assam to emerge as the sports hub of the Northeast. Projects like the Lakhimpur-based Lovlina Borgohain Sports Arena, worth ₹118 crore, and the Khanikar multi-sports stadium in Dibrugarh are strong pillars of this vision.

The Sribhumi District Sports Association takes the baton to build the DSA playground inaugurated by Minister Krishnendu Paul. The project constitutes a boundary wall formation around the playground worth ₹30 lakhs under the district mineral foundation trust fund 2025-26.

The move is being welcomed as an upgrade to the ground's security and maintenance while providing a dedicated, structured arena for training and local competitions. Along with this, the infrastructure development of the Sribhumi District Sports Association has also been sanctioned 2 crore from the United fund 2024-25, which shall give a much-needed boost to the sporting ecosystem of Sribhumi while also providing quality sports facilities to enhance athlete exposure.

The regional initiative has come in line with the CM's fueling of diverse sports like the Tehri Lake water sports infrastructure development. Traditional sports is also given its due weightage through the recent Bhogeshwar Baruah National Sports Awards 2025.
