The TATA Group has expressed a strong interest in investing in Telangana’s sports infrastructure following recent meetings between Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. These discussions, held in Davos as part of Telangana’s ‘Rising 2047’ vision, focus on upgrading major Hyderabad stadiums to world-class standards to nurture talent and support India’s Olympic goals by 2036. No specific investment amount for sports has been detailed yet, but it forms part of the ₹50,000 crore deal that was seen recently. The commitment aligns with broader TATA investments in the state, including AI, EVs, and hospitality.
Key discussions and broader context
Telangana pitched support for modernizing Hyderabad’s key stadiums, with TATA agreeing on the need for elite facilities to harness India’s sporting potential from a young age. Plans also include the proposed Young India Sports University and public infrastructure upgrades. Chandrasekaran is committed to collaborating with TATA for the rejuvenation of the Musi Riverfront, hotels in temple towns like Medaram and Vemulawada, and the tech sector.

This aligns with the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) models popular in Indian sports development, which is becoming relevant day by day to ongoing efforts for hosting the Commonwealth Games and fulfilling the itch to host the Olympics 2036.
Telangana embracing the PPP model
Telangana actively promotes PPPs in sports infrastructure to overcome maintenance challenges, ensure sustainability, and expand facilities like stadiums, academies, and mini stadiums across 119 assembly constituencies. The state’s Sports Policy 2025 emphasizes PPPs for upgrades, allowng upto 30% commercial use while prioritizing athlete access events. Recent initiatives have integrated global partnerships for Olympic readiness, aligning with national goals.
Major projects under the PPP model include the Young India Sports University, at which the Gachibowli Stadium, spread over 70 acres, offers 13-14 programs in cricket, athletics, and aquatics for elite sports training. The GHMC Sports Complexes, which consists 12 complexes, 7 pools, 521 playgrounds, focus on revenue generation through coaching via the PPP for Ameerpet, Shaikpet, Sanathnagar, Golcando, etc. The LB Stadium, Hakimpet School, and several indoor stadiums are also unified under the PPP management.
