Uttar Pradesh Budget 2026-27: ₹1,028 Crore Sports Push With Green Park Upgrade, Dhyan Chand University Expansion Signal New Era
Uttar Pradesh has unveiled a massive ₹1,028 crore allocation for sports development in the 2026–27 budget

The battlefield of the sporting glory of Uttar Pradesh is no longer confined to the fields and courts but has expanded its wings to state policy and public investment. The vision laid down by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to change the projection of the state into a powerhouse of consummate athleticism has taken a first step forward, where the amalgamation of cultural pride with technological sound sports infrastructure is there to cater to the rising generation.
The introduction of the 2026-2027 budget rolls out a red carpet for the sports inclusivity and advancements. Finance Minister Suresh Khanna has announced a massive ₹1,028 crore to policy-driven facility upgrades for sports. Among the major advancing, ₹297 crore has been allocated for constructing new infrastructure both to the urban and rural areas of the state. ₹45 crore has been meted out for conducting the redevelopment of the Kanpur’s Green Park International Cricket Stadium and for keeping the hands working for the new projects ₹80 crore has been advanced to Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University in Meerut. To make Uttar Pradesh competition-ready, not just physically but mentally, a sum of ₹90 crore has been invested for the creation of a training and education hub for future athletes.

An inspection of the Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University was also carried out by the CM, and strict guidelines were issued for the opening of the session of the university for students by May 31, 2026. During the inspection, Yogi empahsised on the movement where over the past 11 years new sports culture has taken a rocket speed and draws inspiration for the culture from initiatives like Khelo India, Fit India movement, and MP’s sports competitions, which gave sports a new direction in India.
Creating Pathways for Youth Through Expanding Sports Infrastructure
Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure roadmap now features state-of-the-art sports colleges in every division, upgraded stadiums in major cities, enhanced training facilities at Dhyan Chand University, and community arenas integrated into urban development plans. This creates a clear pipeline for youth to train, compete, and advance to national and international stages.
The budget also supports youth engagement through district-level competitions funded with ₹20 crore and the development of residential and support facilities for athletes, signaling a systematic effort to position sports as a driver of personal and regional growth.
