Ahmedabad 2030: India’s Ultimate Sports Capitals Gears Up For The Commonwealth Games

Exciting times lie ahead for sports fans in India. Ahmedabad is gearing upto host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. What makes it ideal? Fans will be thrilled that the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium, will host the opening and closing ceremonies along with other sporting events. The two major multi-sport hubs are in the spotlight as well. The Naranpura Sports Complex and the under-construction Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave. Both are being developed with Olympic-standard pools, arenas, and athlete facilities.

The whole concept is designed so that all competition venues across Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar-Vadodara sit within a 30-45 minutes travel radius. A win for athletes and fans alike. Projects like the six-laning of the SP Ring Road (₹2,200 crore) and three new bridges worth ₹258 crore (expected by 2026) will ease bottlenecks at Makarba, Thaltej, and Sattadhar. Wastewater management, stormwater drainage, and older bridges like Subhash Bridge are also being restored and expanded to accommodate large crowds. Also, the mobility in the city is getting a major boost.

Metro Phase II (28+ kilometers), ring road expansions, and smart traffic systems with over 6,500 cameras are being implemented. This will be done alongside ₹330 crore in civic projects for water, sanitation and connectivity, ensuring the city is ready to welcome athletes and fans from all around the world.
