War Shatters Iran’s Sports Infrastructure as Tehran Stadiums and Complexes Are Hit
Air strikes in Tehran have reportedly damaged critical sports infrastructure, including the Bozorgmehr Sports Complex, a major training centre for Iran’s national kabaddi team

When one's city is being bombed, where would all the people take shelter? It's mostly at a sports complex where there is strong infrastructure surrounding the scared civilians who can stay together and become each other's support in such stressful times.
To minimize relief, this becomes one of the probable reasons for the US bombing Iran's sports ecosystem. The air strikes have destroyed the Bozorgmehr Sports Complex located in Tehran, which was once a significant training center for the kabaddi team of Iran.Iran has been one of the strongest international kabaddi champions outside South Asia, as it also holds the crown for winning the 2024 World Beach Kabaddi Championship, thereby highlighting the significance of the dedicated infrastructure.

Strike on Azadi
Among other sports facilities destroyed during the war was a significant Azadi indoor stadium with a spectator capacity of 12000. Being built in the 1970s, the venue had witnessed major volleyball, basketball, futsal, and wrestling matches. The complex was the country's largest sports hub, originally built for the 1974 Asian Games, with features to host Olympic-level competitions.
Alireza Sohrabian, president of Iran’s Rowing Federation, condemned the attack as a breach of the Red Cross charter.‘The destruction of sports, educational, and healthcare spaces is explicitly forbidden by the Red Cross in wartime, yet today we witnessed a direct attack on a sports venue at Azadi Stadium,’ he said earlier.
The loss of sports infrastructure is of utmost critical and strategic importance, as it means the youth not having accessibility to deviate their lifestyles towards a productive regime, with the talents of athletes facing a critical blow due to lack of exposure.
