Chandigarh eyes Asian Championships in 2027, Mansukh Mandaviya assures support
In the latest meeting with Union Sports Minister, Chandigarh's governor expressed plans to host Asian Championships in 2027.

Chandigarh has expressed ambitions to host the upcoming Asian Relay Championships 2027 and the 21st Asian Roller Skating Championships 2027, in line with the city’s ambitions to build a stable sports infrastructure. During a meeting with Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria in New Delhi on Thursday, Union Sports MinisterMansukh Mandaviya also extended his support for Chandigarh’s plans
During the discussion with Mandaviya, administrator Kataria discussed the possibility of hosting the two continental sports events inChandigarh. The union minister was also briefed on preparations for the Second International Chandigarh Marathon, scheduled for November 2026.
Chandigarh’s sports infrastructure growth
As Chandigarh plans to host the Asian Relay Championships 2027 and the 21st Asian Roller Skating Championships 2027, the governor also sought support from the Central government to establish an International Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall at the Sector-42 Sports Complex.
The union territory’s governor also requested assistance from Mansukh Mandaviya to steadfast sports infrastructural development in Punjab. The Union sports minister assured all possible support for upgrading sports facilities in the Union Territory, an official statement released by the Punjab Raj Bhavan read.
