Goa is adopting a multidimensional strategy to strengthen sports infrastructure signalled by the recent ₹251 crore allocations for sports and youth affairs. From plans for an international cricket stadium in Cuncolim to signing a 3-year deal for Formula 4 races, Goa is showing the diversity in its vision for sports development.
On this note, Rajesh Faldessai, MLA of the Cumborjua constituency of Goa, has formally welcomed the state's initiative to build a dedicated sports ground in the region to promote grassroots-level athlete participation.
The move was declared by Pramod Sawant, CM of Goa, in an attempt to provide quality infrastructure facilities in the constituency. The MLA expressed his gratitude towards the Sawant-led government for having recognized the significance of sports architecture in the constituency's development.

Goa budget allocations for infrastructural haul
“In addition, Rs61.31 crore has been earmarked for the continued development of various sports grounds during this financial year,” said CM Sawant.
The CM had announced in his latest budget for the completion of the Madkai sports complex, a football ground at Sao Jose de Areal, and a jogging track at Fatorda.Another allocation of ₹5.74 crore shall be made for a football ground at Carmona in Benaulim. Places like Margao shall receive a synthetic football turf and floodlights worth ₹0.58 crore, with another sports facility proposal of ₹3.55 crore for Bicholim.
Comprehensive sports advancement initiatives
This infrastructural push came adjacent to a broader vision across 12 taluks and 190 villages. The largest upcoming sports overhaul in Goa is the international cricket stadium in Dharwal, with a massive 4500 seating capacity, which further lays stepping stones to the state's sports ambitions. Along with this, the Valpoi sports complex constituting 3 pitches, outdoor lane and a multiple lane swimming pool and Usgao sports complex sheltering football field and gymnasium are major projects to accelerate the sports momentum in the state.
