Delhi Eyes 70,000-Seat Mega Stadium as DDCA Pushes for World-Class Cricket Infrastructure
DDCA has proposed building a new mega stadium within the capital. DDCA president Rohan Jaitley confirmed plans for a 60,000–70,000 seat venue with an additional ground.

With only one major international cricket venue, that is, the Arun Jaitley Stadium, and having a seating capacity of just 35,000, Delhi is increasingly feeling the strain of limited cricket infrastructure. Recognising this gap, the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has formally initiated plans for a mega stadium project within the city.
DDCA president Rohan Jaitley confirmed that the association is aiming to significantly expand Delhi’s hosting capabilities. “We are looking at a capacity of 60,000 to 70,000 with an additional ground,” Jaitley said, signalling a decisive step toward elevating Delhi’s cricketing footprint.
The proposal has been placed before the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), with land parcels identified in multiple parts of the capital. The move reflects a strategic attempt to ensure Delhi remains competitive in hosting international fixtures, IPL matches, and tournaments that increasingly demand higher seating capacity and world-class fan amenities.
DDCA Targets Connected Location for World-Class Stadium’s Infrastructure
Elaborating on the vision, Jaitley stated:
“The DDCA wants to build a new modern stadium within Delhi, which will have world-class facilities and enhance fans’ experience. We hope to get land clearance by the end of this year. We have identified parcels of land in Delhi, including in Okhla, Dwarka, Rohini, and Narela. But we want a location which has good metro and road connectivity and is also close to hotels and hospitals.”
Easy metro access, road networks, and proximity to essential infrastructure are seen as critical to handling large match-day crowds and international visitors.
Proposed Mega Stadium: Key Features of Delhi’s Elite Sport Infrastructure
The proposed stadium is expected to include:
- 60,000–70,000 seating capacity, nearly doubling the current capacity
- An additional ground for practice and domestic fixtures
- Modern hospitality boxes and fan experience zones
- Advanced lighting and drainage systems
- Enhanced player facilities and high-performance training areas
- Infrastructure built to meet ICC and IPL hosting standards
If approved, the project would represent the largest expansion of cricket infrastructure in Delhi in decades, which will address the capital’s long-standing capacity gap and position it alongside India’s newer mega venues.
