East Central Railway (ECR) GM Chhatrasal Singh Approves ₹32 Crore To Upgrade Jagjivan Stadium in Bihar
East Central Railway GM Chhatrasal Singh has approved a ₹32 crore upgrade for Patna’s Jagjivan Stadium, transforming it into a modern, state-of-the-art sports hub.

While rumours of a new state being carved out from West Bengal and Bihar continue to brew another controversy, the Bihar sports is committed to the welfare of people despite the turbulence. The Patna-based Jagjivan Stadium is set to receive a major upgrade as the ECR GM Chhatrasal Singh announced a ₹32 crore project to elevate the stadium into a state-of-the-art centre with modern, next-generation facilities.

Project blueprint
The redevelopment project includes an expansion of the seating capacity, upgrades to athlete training centres, improvements to spectator amenities, and the inclusion of a sports hostel for the budding athletes, attracting larger events. It shall also feature accessibility convenience to the differently abled through wheelchair accessible entrances, parking, and halls.
The stadium overhaul is part of a larger scheme of providing Bihar with sports infrastructure, boosting the community's accessibility. The stadium shall attract youth, railway employees, and native clubs, thereby generating opportunities across varied disciplines.
Bihar’s sporting push through funding investment boost
On a similar front, the Bihar government had earlier launched projects like the Pataliputra Sports Complex expansion and the creation of a 40000-seater international cricket stadium in Rajgir, Nalanda.With currently hosting the Men's Hockey Asia Cup, the CM of Bihar has declared a substantial jump in sports allocation from ₹30 crore in 2022 to ₹680 crore in 2026, most of which shall be availed in developing sports infrastructure like the Eklavya Residential Sports School and the e-Marshal initiative for scouting talent. Additionally, work has recently begun on the Amrit Bharat Railway Stadium at Konhara Ghat Railway Colony in Hajipur, a ₹7.14 crore project expected to include modern cricket and football grounds.
The state has also announced the Bihar State Scholarship 2026 with a provision of 5 lakhs to 20 lakhs in annual assistance depending upon the performance.
