Ghana Locks Deal with Morocco to Learn from Its AFCON-Ready, Technology-Driven Sports Model
Morocco continues to cement its reputation as Africa’s premier mega-event host, prompting Ghana to formalise a strategic collaboration aimed at upgrading its own sports infrastructure.

Caught in a controversy of being on the receiving end of favouritism from the CAF, Morocco has time and again proved its capabilities to host events on a large scale. CAF also made a formal statement addressing the aforementioned controversy, highlighting the country’s potential in the field of mega-event hosting.
After having hosted the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco has earned a reputation for having the requisite infrastructure to host these events of massive stature. Ghana has therefore partnered a deal with Morocco to gain learning from its renowned infrastructural stature.

What Ghana had to say about the deal
"We are also collaborating when it comes to sports because Morocco has become a hub for sporting activities in Africa. They just successfully hosted the African Games [AFCON],” Ablakwa said. He continued, “They have invested tremendously in sporting infrastructure, and we are working with them to also improve our facilities and nurture our young talents. Our cooperation with Morocco is becoming very broad, very deep, and very wide.”
Tech driven model of Moroccan sports infrastructure
The Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane is in progress right now to emerge as the world’s largest football stadium. The global architectural firm Populous has been given the responsibility of this construction ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2030.
The targeted facility has been planned to be equipped with 800 high-resolution surveillance cameras. These tech tools shall serve a dual purpose of facial recognition for access control, along with easing crowd management. Technology is also being implemented in digital ticketing as well as fan ID systems. The tools shall provide real-time tracking of attendance, along with more efficient safety along the perimeters. The drone surveillance roaming above the stadium shall provide for an aerial view that can guide patterns in order to minimise congestion.
