“We Knew What Kind of Ability We Had in the Group,” Says Kohli After Historic Triumph in Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
In Gujarat Titans vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL final match RCB won the trophy for the second time

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has bagged their second IPL trophy Yesterday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the final match of the season against the Gujarat Titans (IPL 2024 champions). After defeating the Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets, the team lifted their 2nd Indian Premier League trophy. The match concluded with a winning six runs by Virat Kohli and with this stunning victory, Rajat Patidar, the captain of the brigade enlisted his name with M.S. Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in the list of 'two consecutive years IPL winning Captains'.
RCB won the toss and chose to bowl first. As the pitch was friendly towards the bowlers, despite Washington Sundar's half-century, GT only achieved a total of 155/8 in the first innings. On the other hand, bowlers from both teams had given a remarkable performance. Rashik Salam was the best among them followed by Rashid Khan and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar.
RCB has faced a drought for back-to-back 17 seasons. Although there was hope invoked in the following years of 2009, 2011 and 2016 the fanbase couldn't get to celebrate. But, as they've been called the 'most loyal fanbase' they got to celebrate the title of "Winners" two back-to-back years. In the 18th season they created history by winning the IPL 2025 trophy for the very first time and in IPL 2026 they've just doubled the joy of the triumph.
RCB has always been a team of celebrated players like Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers and Chris Gayle. Their individual records were among the most cherished records of the league. But, despite their mind-boggling solo performances, the team couldn't manage to win the trophy. But, last year it all changed as the team was more into the team performance. And, this year that worked even better.
Reflecting on the team's success, Virat Kohli praised the entire squad and support staff for building a winning culture. "This team has shown incredible character over the last two seasons. Everyone has contributed whenever the team needed them. It's not about one or two players anymore; it's about every individual believing in the cause and stepping up under pressure. That's what has made us champions," Kohli said.
Sportscape observed that in the final match of the IPL 2026, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Gujarat Titans match scorecard mostly highlighted the bowlers but Virat Kohli succeeded in making a place for himself by scoring 75 runs in 42 deliveries. After becoming the IPL winner for the second time in a row, Kohli said, “thought of this moment many times, wanting to hit the winning run”. Regarding his half century within 25 balls he says, “Such is the demand, super young players pushing you to..”
Sportscape thinks that this back-to-back win of the IPL trophy has set a milestone for a team like RCB that has faced disappointment for straight 17years and comforts the dreamers that nothing is impossible.
