India vs Afghanistan: Delhi to Host Surprise T20I Series as Afghanistan Eye Statement Against Cricket Giants
Afghanistan decided to host a three day International T20 series in New Delhi, India.

Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to host an International series in India, this year. This initiative is a very new thing in the history of international cricket in Afghanistan. The Venue of the said tournament is going to be Delhi, the national capital of India.
The tournament is going to take place in the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in the month of September this year. Though the official announcement is yet to be made the preps are going on. And the three-day T20I is scheduled on 13,16 and 19th of September. Although, Afghanistan's men's team is visiting India for a Test series along with the three ODIs. And the matches will start on June 6, 2026.
As the Indian Cricket Board aka BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board aka ACB share a good relationship, ACB asked for a return tour from the BCCI. Though, this is not the first time the BCCI is taking such requests into consideration.
Previously, BCCI has helped other boards like Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Ireland by sending Indian cricket teams there to play a series. This kind of match actually helps these boards to boost their financial situation.
So, this time this kind of understanding is taking place between BCCI and ACB. Official acknowledgements regarding these matches will be made soon as per the source.
The Delhi Premier League T20 is also going to take place. Although BCCI perhaps had a word with the Delhi and District Cricket Association also known as DDCA regarding the availability issue of the ground.
Because of several Internal issues Afghanistan has been playing their home games in India for a decade now. Even in the last decade ACB hosted a game with Ireland and Bangladesh at Greater Noida and Dehradun in two consecutive years 2017 and 2018. Even two years ago in 2024 they hosted a match in Greater Noida again against New Zealand. The match was abandoned because of the rain.
As the Asian Games are also around the corner the selection committee has to select a team for that as well. As that was also pre-scheduled in September, 2026
sportscape observes this decision as a positive one. As it would not only hype the ACB economy but also offer a brand new thing to cricket history. So, we're getting once again an additional chance of cheering "India! India!" even before the ICC Men's World Cup 2027.
