India Emerges as Front-Runner to Host World Mind Games as IMSA Eyes Massive Chess Expansion
India emerges as a strong contender to host the World Mind Games as IMSA eyes major chess expansion, partnerships, and growth in the country’s booming mind sports ecosystem.

India’s growing dominance in mind sports has placed it firmly in contention to host the World Mind Games, with the International Mind Sports Association actively exploring partnerships in the country.
The move signals a strategic push to tap into India’s vast talent pool and rapidly expanding ecosystem across chess, esports, and other cognitive disciplines. IMSA officials have emphasised that India is not just a potential host but a long-term growth market for mind sports globally.
“Chess is played by over 50 million people in India alone and we in IMSA are committed to make it available to 500 million Indians in the next few years. The plan is to invest heartily to build a great society and culture. We have now on board the FIDE president Arkady Dvorkovich as the IMSA president also,” said Geoffery Borg, underlining the scale of ambition.
IMSA’s India Strategy: Partnerships, Market Expansion and Mind Sports Growth
At the core of IMSA’s India push is a strong emphasis on strategic partnerships and ecosystem building. “We are looking for partnership especially in Chess and other mind sports,” said Sandeep Singh, highlighting the organisation’s intent to collaborate with corporate stakeholders. He noted that India’s esports market has already attracted investments worth nearly $300 million, while chess continues to gain momentum, driven by a new generation of players and increasing corporate interest.
IMSA’s approach goes beyond hosting a single event. It aims to create a sustainable structure for mind sports, integrating competitive platforms, digital engagement, and commercial backing to scale participation nationwide.
Vaishali’s Global Triumph Strengthens India’s Bid
India’s case for hosting the World Mind Games is further strengthened by recent international success. R Vaishali’s victory at the FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament 2026 in Cyprus has reinforced the country’s growing stature in global chess.
Her win reflects the depth of India’s talent pipeline and the effectiveness of its evolving chess ecosystem. As achievements like these continue to elevate India’s profile, they naturally align with IMSA’s vision of expanding mind sports in one of the world’s most promising markets.
With institutional backing, rising champions, and increasing commercial interest, India’s bid to host the World Mind Games is no longer aspirational, it is steadily becoming inevitable.
