Frustration for 10-Man Belgium as Brilliant Beiranvand Secures a Hard-Fought Draw for Formidable Iran
Iran and Belgium battle to a tense 0-0 draw in their FIFA 2026 World Cup Group G clash, highlighted by Alireza Beiranvand's heroics and a late red card for Belgium.

In a much-anticipated clash between Belgium and Iran in the FIFA 2026 World Cup Group G at SoFi Stadium, both teams emerged 0-0 in what was one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament. While there were no goals scored, this was certainly not a match that lacked excitement.
A Formidable Iranian Display
From the very beginning, it became evident that Iran were a team to be reckoned with. Rather than opting to adopt a more conservative style of play, the team actually played some great football throughout the match. Both teams created good chances in the match with Kevin De Bruyne and Youri Tielemans dictating the pace for the Red Devils; however, it was the Asians who managed to exploit any opportunity to attack.
In the first half, Iran even managed to score a goal from a brilliant free-kick play executed by Mehdi Taremi, but after reviewing the goal via the video assistant referee system, it was ruled out for being an offside.
Beiranvand's Heroics and Belgium's Red Card
The main cause behind why Iran ended up with a clean sheet and also frustrated the Belgians throughout the game was because of Alireza Beiranvand who is the goalkeeper in the Iranian national team. He made some of the best acrobatic saves on goal line in the match which included stopping Romelu Lukaku from scoring from a point blank shot.
The woes for the Belgian team increased further in the latter part of the game where Nathan Ngoy was given a red card by the referee in the game, leaving them with only 10 players on the field.
What's Next in Group G?
It is clear from this outcome that things have become incredibly close in Group G, and nothing is really set in stone yet. In terms of the number of points gained from their first two matches, both Iran and Belgium are currently tied with 2 points each.
Sportscape believes that coming into the last crucial day of matches, there is no shortage of pressure. Will either of these two teams manage to qualify, or will they be overtaken by Egypt and New Zealand?
