Funded by Khelo India, this facility, along with the district’s FIFA-certified High Altitude Stadium, boosts Tawang’s capacity for indoor volleyball, district-level tournaments, and youth training at elevations over 10,000 feet.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who kicked off the kayaking event, highlighted Tawang’s transformation from a cultural outpost into a national center for kayaking, football, and volleyball amid the rapids of the Tawangchu River.
Rijiju, with Sports Minister Kento Jini and MLA Tsering Lhamu, stressed that bolstering border-region sports infrastructure facilitates elite indoor training, particularly for volleyball, while boosting youth participation and endurance at high altitude.
Igniting Tawang’s Sports Infrastructure with a push from Khelo India
A versatile indoor hall designed for volleyball and multi-sport events, equipped with contemporary amenities to host state-level competitions, reflects Khelo India’s border-enhancement push. Complementing FIFA-quality turfs at the Jang and Zemithang stadiums, they emerges as the first national-grade high-altitude football camps having exemplary facilities that feature synthetic tracks, SAI hostels, and multipurpose halls in Muyo-Lungla.
Turbocharging Tawang’s Viksit Arunachal through Sports Inclusion
Pema Khandu’s vision of “Viksit Arunachal by 2047” weaves sports into progress, with FIFA turfs in Jang and Zemithang fueling local football fever. Arunachal Kayaking Association recognizes Tawangchu rapids as premier hubs, while Rijiju’s initiatives eliminate hiring freezes and boost medals. Enhanced facilities integrate defense fitness, cultural vitality, and employment, preparing Tawang for marathons, global camps, and Himalayan champions.
