WATCH: Knicks vs. Spurs Ends in Defeat for New York, Fans Clash Outside MSG
The Knicks vs Spurs game 3 of the 2026 NBA finals ended in chaos for the New York fans after fight broke out outside the MSG.

The San Antonio Spurs walked into Madison Square Garden and did exactly what nobody thought they could do. After dropping the first two games and handing New York the home-court advantage on a silver platter, the Spurs came into Game 3 and just flat out took over. Final score: 115-111, and honestly, it wasn't even as close as that scoreline suggests. San Antonio held the lead for basically the entire game, which is wild when you think about the fact that they couldn't buy a lead in either of the first two contests. That's a massive momentum swing, and Spurs fans absolutely have every right to be hyped right now.
But Knicks fans? Not so much.
Huge fight on 42nd street
While the Spurs were celebrating, things got seriously ugly outside the Garden. A video started making the rounds online showing a full-on brawl breaking out on 42nd Street after the game. We're talking a real, raw street fight between Knicks fans who were clearly not handling the loss well. And it got bad enough that someone was caught on camera swinging a bus stop sign at another person. The NYPD had to step in multiple times just to push the crowd back and try to restore some kind of order.

We get it. Losing a home game in the finals stays with the fans for a long time. But a bus stop sign? Well, this wasn’t expected at all.
Trump's arrival made everything worse
The frustration didn't just come out of nowhere after the final buzzer. Fans were already boiling before the game even tipped off. President Trump showed up to Game 3, and with him came the full Secret Service circus. Extra personnel, heightened security everywhere, and absolutely zero clear communication for fans just trying to get inside the building.
People were being shuffled to 34th and 8th, pushed through barricades and metal detectors, and then told by officials that they were in the wrong spot entirely and needed to go to 34th and 7th. Then another group of police reportedly redirected everyone again toward 32nd and 6th. So you had thousands of fans wandering around Midtown Manhattan with no clear idea of how to actually enter the arena. That's a total organisational failure, and you can't act surprised when already emotionally charged fans start losing their patience.
This wasn't even the first incident this series
And let's be clear, this isn't just a one-night problem. The fan behaviour in these finals has been a running story. After Game 2, when the Knicks pulled out the win, thousands of fans flooded the streets to celebrate, and things spiralled fast. Police ended up arresting 26 people outside MSG that night alone, with charges ranging from climbing the light poles and food carts to selling counterfeit merchandise.
The Knicks fanbase is one of the most passionate in the entire league, and MSG is genuinely the most electric arena in basketball when that crowd is locked in. But between the entry chaos, the back-to-back fan incidents, and a series that just got a whole lot more interesting with San Antonio pulling off a road win, things are getting spicy in New York in more ways than one. The basketball is great. The scene outside? Needs serious work.
