Nepal unveils ₹1 trillion plan to revolutionize sports infrastructure
Sunil Lamsal further mentioned that these projects will help build a strong sports ecosystem in Nepal, helping players, coaches, and fans

In a major development, Nepal’s Ministry of Infrastructure Development is preparing to issue tenders worth nearly Rs 1 trillion during the current fiscal year through a multi-year contracting system. On Thursday, Infrastructure Minister Sunil Lamsal announced the government’s plan to increase investments in the sports infrastructure sector under the new fiscal budget.
According to the plan, the country will see the development of 10 football stadiums equipped with floodlights. Cricket stadiums with modern-day facilities will be constructed across eight major cities in Nepal. Under the proposed plan, multipurpose indoor stadiums with a capacity of 2,000 spectators will be built across 7 major cities.
Sunil Lamsal further mentioned that these projects will help build a strong sports ecosystem in Nepal, helping players, coaches, and fans. He added that the installation of floodlights in the football stadium will allow the conduct of evening matches.
According to Lamsal, indoor sports facilities will promote the growth of indoor sports such as volleyball, basketball, and badminton, providing high-end facilities to athletes and creating a stable sports infrastructure in Nepal.
Sportscape views the Nepal government's latest investment plans as a major step towards enhancing Nepal's sports system. Building football, cricket and indoor stadiums will encourage youngsters to take up sports. However, the success of this plan will be determined by how quickly these projects are completed and maintained.
