Opel extends handball strategy with 2027 IHF World Championship partnership
German based automotive brand Opel has been announced as official sponsor for 2027 IHF World Championships.

Opel, a Germany-based automotive manufacturing brand, has been named as the official sponsor of the 2027 IHF Men’s Handball World Championship in Germany. With this latest investment, Opel deepens its presence across one of the most commercially strong team sports.
As Opel continues to expand its handball portfolio, the latest partnership opens new opportunities for the brand to attract millions of fans through the live broadcast of the 2027 IHF World Championships. Scheduled between January 13 and 31, 2027, the tournament will host 32 nations across multiple host cities, with the final scheduled at Cologne’s Lanxess Arena.
While serving as the tournament’s official automotive partner, the brand will also receive extensive visibility throughout the championship. Opel will also be active in the tournament’s operations, providing vehicle and shuttle services for teams and officials.
After previous partnership with the German Handball Federation (DHB) and the Handball Bundesliga (HBL), the latest sponsorship deal with the IHF World Championship, Opel has intensified its broader handball strategy.
Patrick Dinger, Head of Opel Germany, said, “As a German manufacturer, we are proud to support the Handball World Championship in our home country as a key player.” He further mentioned looking forward to exciting games, a great atmosphere with the broader possibility of presenting Opel to a global fan community.
Sportscape believes this partnership is poised to contribute to the continued growth of handball in Germany, especially with the tournament being hosted on home soil. At the same time, it presents a strong opportunity for Opel to enhance its global visibility by engaging with a wider international audience during a high-profile tournament.
