SAI Sanctions ₹1.45 Cr Boost for India’s Thomas & Uber Cup Campaign
Amid rising governance concerns in Indian sports, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has approved over ₹1.45 crore in financial assistance for the Indian badminton contingent participating in the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup finals in Horsens, Denmark.

Amidst growing concerns between the sports governing bodies and their stakeholders, the Sports Authority of India has declared financial aid for the Indian badminton team. A sum of 1.45 crores has been issued to aid in the financial and logistical costs of the badminton team to participate in the SAI, extending support of over Rs 1.45 crore to Indian badminton contingents for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals being held at Horsens, Denmark, from 24th April to 3rd May.

Promised logistic assistance
The logistics which are being covered under the sanction include airfare, boarding and lodging, visa costs, accreditation, daily allowances, food allowances, insurance and out-of-pocket expenses for all members of the contingent. Along with these, a comprehensive support mechanism has been built whereby specialised coaches, physiotherapists, trainers, and masseurs shall also accompany the athletes. This move is being considered as a strategic move to continue its winning streak after the 2022 maiden win of the men's badminton team in the Thomas Cup.

The squad for the Thomas Cup 2026 includes Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Kiran George, Satwik Sairaj, Chirag Shetty, Amsakarunan Hariharan, M R Arjun, and Dhruv Kapila.
