Uttar Pradesh is accelerating its rise as a sporting powerhouse, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlining an ambitious, multi-tier sports development roadmap at the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2025 in Lucknow. The plan aims to build a seamless pipeline, from village playgrounds to world-class stadiums, positioning sports as a key driver of youth development.
Addressing athletes and stakeholders, the Chief Minister emphasised that sport is no longer just recreational but a transformative force shaping society. He highlighted the state’s commitment to nurturing talent at every level, ensuring that grassroots participation translates into professional opportunities.
Grassroots to Global: Building a Layered Sports Infrastructure
At the core of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy is a structured, bottom-up approach. The government has made provisions to ensure playgrounds in every village, alongside plans for mini stadiums at the block level and full-scale stadiums at the district level, creating a comprehensive infrastructure network.
This layered model is designed to identify and nurture talent early, while providing athletes with access to training and competition facilities as they progress. The state is also investing in academies, universities, and modern training ecosystems to strengthen its long-term sporting culture.
With infrastructure expansion, policy backing, and growing recognition of athletes, Uttar Pradesh is steadily positioning itself as a hub for national and international sporting excellence, where the journey from local playgrounds to global arenas is becoming increasingly structured and accessible.
