Western Jaintia Hills Reviews Sports Infrastructure Push
In West Jaintia Hills, Wailadmiki Shyla and Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh reviewed ongoing and proposed sports infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening grassroots participation.

In recent years, Western Jaintia Hills has endeavored a number of sports ventures to strengthen its grassroots athlete participation, including the district-level inter-village football championship organized periodically to motivate the youth.
Building on these initiatives, the sports authorities, including the Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Wailadmiki Shyla, conducted a thorough review of the current and proposed sports infrastructure works along with the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills, Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS.
“I inspected the ongoing and proposed sports infrastructure works along with the Deputy Commissioner of West Jaiñtia Hills, Shri Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS. The review included the construction of seating galleries around the ground, the development of a new VIP gallery, the laying of an athletic track, and the installation of a new artificial turf for the football field," said Shyla.
The review was carried out at multiple venues with the motive to transform the local sports grounds into quality training facilities that shall give the much-needed push to host bigger championships and give accessibility to year-round training.

Infrastructural proposals discussed in the review
One major highlight of the review was the proposal to construct a seating gallery surrounding the ground. Tiered spectator stands shall enable larger crowds during local school events or district athlete meets. Adjacent to this, a VIP gallery shall also be constructed to host chief guests, senior officials, and sports administrators.Another important declaration was that of the integration of a professional athlete track. This shall aid the athletes for middle-distance races, sprint running, and relay competitions without having to migrate to elite sports facilities in metropolitan areas.
Keeping in mind the region's football culture, an artificial football turf is also being installed on the main field to provide equitable accessibility to exposure on the local level too. These initiatives suit well with vision of CM Conrad Sangma.
