Australia's announcement of its new Hockey Centre in line with its international hosting aspirations draws attention
A new $163M hockey centre in Perth will serve as a high-performance base for Hockey Australia, linking grassroots talent to international competition.

Australia has started to strengthen its bid for hosting the 2032 Summer Olympics by investing in state of the art training hubs and talent pipelines.
One such component of this vision is the construction of the new Australia Hockey Center in Perth envisioned to support the country's high performance sports ecosystem makeover. A $163 million worth elite stadium is expected to house Hockey Australia's Centre of Excellence and High Performance Program bridging the gap between grassroots level participation and international representation.
Key sports infrastructure details
The proposed project shall have four outdoor pitches, along with two FIH Category one surfaces, a modernised training facility and an indoor complex containing two courts. The stadium is targeted to have 1,000 seat capacity expandable to 10,000 during respective events. It also aims to achieve a 5 star Green Star certified rating. The project is targeted to support Western Australia's gross state product with a contribution of $34.4 million. The project is ecpected to generate an estimated creation of 200 employment opportunities for the same.
Part of the government's infrastructure roadmap
The project is in line with Western Australia's recent initiative of PlayOn WA by 2030, whereby the government aims to deliver 2030 community sport and recreation infrastructure projects. These infrastructural initiatives back Australia's three tier sports development vision of boosting Olympic preparations, centralised high performance growth and grassroots-level participation.
