Border Gavaskar Trophy Infrastructure Picks Spark Fan Backlash
The announcement of venues for the 2026–27 Border Gavaskar Trophy by the Board of Control for Cricket in India has stirred strong reactions among cricket fans, with the inclusion of Guwahati and Ranchi drawing criticism over their historical lack of prominence

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has declared the host stadiums to conduct the upcoming 2026-27 home season of the Border Gavaskar Trophy test series.
Adrenaline was witnessed rushing through the Indian sports spectator diaspora upon the unveiling of the stadiums for the prestigious test series. The selection of Guwahati and Ranchi stadiums is not being welcomed by the sports community, for the series is neither famous nor result-conducive in these arenas.
Allegations are being made against the Joint Secretary of the BCCI, Devajit Saikia, for having favoured his home state, Assam, over other, more viable states. Among other options, Mumbai-based Wankhede Stadium, Bangalore-based Chinnaswamy and Kolkata-based Eden Gardens are being suggested by the Indian sports spectating community. Apart from these, mention of Chepauk Stadium , located in Chennai, and Arun Jaitley Stadium, in New Delhi, is also being highlighted.

Future prospects of test series in India
The 2023 win of India was witnessed at the cricket association stadium in Nagpur and the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The men in blue shall play the series on 21st January 2027, with the five-day event culminating on 27th February 2027. The significance of the test matches in our country can be judged by BCCI’s provision of an additional ₹45 lakh per match on top of match fee for players having participated in 75% of the matches.
