Bhupendra Patel Confident as Gujarat Pushes Bid for World Athletics Championship 2031
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed confidence as a World Athletics delegation assessed the state's infrastructure for the 2031 World Athletics Championships.

Bhupendra Patelexpressed confidence that Gujarat can secure hosting rights for the World Athletics Championship 2031, as a five-member delegation from the international governing body began assessing the state's sports infrastructure and event readiness. This visit is one more step in the direction of Gujarat's goal to establish itself as the main center for India's global sports.
The team, Antti Pihlakoski, led by the chair of the World Athletics bid evaluation committee, will assess the state's readiness for the World Athletics U20 Championships 2028 as well as the World Athletics Championships 2031.
World Athletics Committee Surveys Gujarat's Sports System
In the course of their 2-day assessment, the team was to evaluate sports infrastructure and the related elements in the state. Chief Minister Patel mentioned in a state government issued press release that the rapid development of sporting facilities and the state's robust sports culture were critical factors in the state's expression of interest to host one of the largest sporting events.
During the assessment, the team would witness first-hand the sports culture and preparedness of Gujarat, Patel stated while expressing his confidence in the state securing the rights to host the 2031 Championships.
The state's readiness to host such grand events was also emphasized by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi. "World class sporting events would be hosted in Gujarat," he said.
Mega Venues Backbone of Gujarat's Sports Goals
Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said that the state is ready to host world class events and said that the developments of Veer Savarkar Sports Complex, Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, Narendra Modi Stadium and Karai Academy are proof of that.
The state's ambitions are heightened by Ahmedabad being granted hosting privileges for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. The Commonwealth Sport General Assembly granted the Games to Ahmedabad last year, which is a historic occasion because it is the first time in a score of years that India has hosted a multi-sport event.
