Chattisgarh CM meets Kapil Dev, PGTI president to explore golf infrastructural developments

Chhattisgarh recently witnessed the unveiling of its 2026-27 state budget worth ₹1.72 crore with a special emphasis on infrastructure-led sports development.
Padma Bhushan Kapil Dev, president of PGTI, met CM Vishnu Deo Sai to discuss the potential growth of golf-centred infrastructure in the state, upholding the aforesaid vision. The meeting was also attended by government representative IAS Subodh Kumar Singh and the PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl. The highlights of the meeting included the vision for the construction of a global standard-compliant international golf centre in the state, which harnesses the dynamism of the sport in aiding regional economic growth while being a catalyst for destination branding and tourism.
Key proposals of the meeting
The proposed international golf course shall be based in Nava Raipur, with the state PGTI partnership bringing benefits of land allocation and institutional support from the former's end while the latter attracts private investment, technical expertise and international partnership exposure. Another important mention in the meeting was that of the proposed participation of the Nava Raipur franchise in India's first-ever professional golf league,the 72 League.
The meeting also acknowledged the potential of these golf-anchored endeavours to stimulate the tourism sector by boosting real estate, hospitality and international event exposure, aiding a wider regional economic system boost. This places Chhattisgarh in the centre's macro aspiration of sports-led economic growth, supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
State's earlier golf development initiatives
The Chhattisgarh government also announced schemes like the Sports Excellence Mission with an annual 100 crore allocation to provide world-class training facilities, financial incentives and sports infrastructure boosts. The sports promotion mission, namely the Krida Protsahan scheme, also bagged an allocation of ₹57 crores in the budget. Dovetailing this mission, the state also allocated ₹10 crore to promote the Sarguja and Bastar Olympics.Private sports investment boost was encouraged with the scheduled construction of a ₹68.2 crore worth National Archery Centre under a tripartite agreement of NTPC, NRANVP and the Chhattisgarh Sports and Youth Department
