Assam has made yet another move towards democratizing its sports infrastructure to nurture its homegrown athletic talent.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took to an official post on X, to announce the inauguration of its latest Lovlina Borgohain sports arena in Lakhimpur, Assam. The sports hub caught eyes for sharing its name with the Olympic bronze medalist Assam-based boxer who brought laurels to the country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The name was strategically chosen to inspire the local youth and motivate them to pursue sports. “To ensure Assam's sporting talent gets world-class facilities, we are building state-of-the-art sports infrastructure across the state. - Himanta Biswa Sarma”
In Assam we are building world class sporting infrastructure in every district. And we are naming them after our great sporting icons.

Details of the project
The facility features modern training amenities, stadiums, indoor halls, synthetic tracks and academies’, targeting sports like boxing, football, athletics and archery. The CM also announced complementary initiatives to support infrastructure led sports development like coaching, scholarships, financial assistance and international exposure for athletes.
The grand scheme
The highlighted vision behind this venture was to provide the budding athletes community level access to training centers and give them a platform to sharpen their skills. The project is being considered as an investment in health, youth empowerment and national pride with the masterplan to position Assam as the flagship sporting hub of the Northeast.
Dovetailing its vision of decentralisation, Assam had earlier this year also launched a massive ₹233 crore estimated multisport stadium project based in Khanikar, Dibrugarh spread across 104 bighas of land becoming one of the most ambitious projects of Assam's history.
