Telangana’s ₹700 Cr Sports Push As Gachibowli Stadium Set for 50,000-Seat Upgrade with Tata CSR Boost
Under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s comprehensive sports overhaul, the Gachibowli Stadium is set for a major transformation into a 50,000-seat, world-class multi-sport hub.

Under the comprehensive sports overhaul planned by CM Revanth Reddy for the state of Telangana, one of the key provisions was the upgrade of the Gachibowli stadium.
During a briefing to the media on the Cabinet decision, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stated that the project will be implemented throughout the current 76-acre stadium premises, of which 64 acres would be developed to construct facilities for 21 different sports disciplines. A sum of ₹700 has been sanctioned for the refurbishment project.

Blueprint to the stadium upgrade
The stadium is being planned to get an upgrade in its seating capacity, which shall be increased from 20,000 seats to a total of 50,000 seats. This project is being planned in order to equip the state with the requisite infrastructure to host international events like the 2034 Olympics . We also concluded talks about expanding the swimming pool capacity and the sports university on campus. The sports university shall be well-equipped to provide quality training, academic programmes, and research.
The remnant area of 12 acres of land shall be used for other commercial activities, the proceeds of which shall be used further to maintain the stadium, providing training and accommodation facilities for the athletes.
CSR of TATA initiative
Srinivas further informed about the prestigious Tatas taking interest in investment under their CSR activities in the sports infrastructure, in return for which the government is thinking of renaming the stadium after the late Ratan Tata. The project shall be made in a PPP model, which highlights the importance of the private sector in sports infrastructural investments.
