Global Chess League (GCL) is all set to begin its campaign in India. The Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru, is now awaiting the world chess players in the Chess League 2026. The tournament will start on September 3, 2026. And the timing couldn’t be better, as the new generation is taking over Indian Chess. Players like R Praggnanandhaa and D Gukesh have become the most recognized faces globally in the sport.
GCL is a joint initiative of FIDE and Tech Mahindra. The league has transformed chess into more than an individual game; the sport is now known for its team games like franchise chess leagues, rapid-fires, and mixed-team events. The top world chess playerswill compete in these events in the city of Bengaluru.
The Commissioner of Global Chess League and Tech Mahindra GLC, Gourav Rakshit, feels that it is a defining moment for Bengaluru chess: “The Global Chess League was created to transform chess into a truly global spectator sport.
