IGPL CEO announces an investment of $100 million to boost golf infrastructural development
The city-based Indian Golf Premier League, backed by Yuvraj Singh, has secured $100M from 10 franchises, with an additional $250M pledged for Tier 2–3 golf infrastructure.

Viewed as an elite sport in India, golf is now rebuilding its image as a strong economic catalyst as it aims to win a larger share of the 19% surge in non-cricket sponsorships within the industry of Indian sports sponsorship, estimated to be around ₹1,633 crores in 2024. In a Delhi-based conference, the CEO of the Indian Golf Premier League announced a total investment of $100 million from its 10 franchises to launch its city-based premier league.

Investment overview and details
The investment has been distributed across franchises from sectors like pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, real estate and ventures based in the varied states of Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Bangalore, Punjab and Gurugram. The investment is spread across 10 franchise partners, with each promising 10 million each over a period of ten years. Beyond this, the franchise partners have also committed to a $250 million investment to build golf facilities in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
Institutional backing for golf advancement
2025 saw the establishment of two major golf leagues, namely the Indian Golf Premier League backed by former cricketer Yuvraj Singh and Professional Golf Tours India’s, 72 the league. The IGPL, aligned with the Indian Golf Union, is targeting to build 8 to 10 acre golf courses along with academies and training facilities. The IGPL CEO, Uttam Singh Mundy, reinstated the vision behind the venture to go beyond the franchise returns into forming golfing communities and employment generation opportunities for holistic economic development, in the conference.
Administrative vision for golf
The government of Chhattisgarh is partnering with PGTI to build international golf infrastructure in Nava Raipur, declared in a meeting with PGTI president Kapil Dev. On the private front, the BMW India Foundation and the Golf Foundation have launched their “Golf for Everyone” initiative under CSR responsibilities. The initiative accounts for grassroots talent identification drives through portable equipment. The Ministry of Tourism has also framed guidelines for providing financial support to golfing endeavours throughout the country.
