The projects are being funded by NHPC under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, with a total financial outlay of Rs 1 crore. An amount of ₹65 lakh has been allocated for the financial year 2025–26.
Baramulla’s Sports Infrastructure Upgrade Plan Takes Shape
Under the MoU, NHPC will work closely with the Baramulla District Administration to plan project phases, prioritising:
- Renovation and enhancement of district playing fields
- Development of multipurpose training centres
- Installation of modern lighting, drainage, and turf systems
- Construction of spectator stands and community engagement areas
- Provision of coaching support infrastructure and equipment
Officials emphasise that these upgrades will address long-standing gaps in facilities that have hampered year-round training and competitive preparation for young athletes in the region.
A Game Changer for Youth and Competitive Opportunity
Baramulla’s infrastructure push aligns with broader efforts to strengthen athletic ecosystems across northern regions. Local youth organisations have welcomed the NHPC partnership, noting that better venues and training facilities will raise performance levels and attract larger sporting events to the district, creating opportunities for athletes to compete beyond local circuits.
With detailed planning already in progress, stakeholders hope the initiative will boost participation, nurture emerging talent, and position Baramulla as a destination for structured, competitive sport.
