KCCA Seeks UGX 39.4B to Complete 10,000-Seat Philip Omondi Stadium in Major Sports Infrastructure Push
KCCA has announced plans to secure UGX 39.4 billion to complete the Philip Omondi Stadium in Kampala.

When stadium blueprints become catalysts for communal pride and athletic progress, football undergoes a bold reinvention, where it is not just played but reimagined. In Kampala, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) is leveraging on the path of securing UGX 39.4 billion, which will ensure them in completion of the most-awaited long-awaited construction of Philip Omondi Stadium, which is a cornerstone project for advancing the sports facilities for athletes.

The funding push for Philip Omondi Stadium will allow the completed stadium to accommodate about 10,000 spectators and will elevate the creativity by including a fully equipped media centre and press room, accessible viewing areas for people with disabilities, dedicated dining and kitchen facilities, modern locker rooms, and a cutting-edge gym. With the inclusion of advanced facilities, it will enforce the completion of primary and secondary training facilities, ranging from elite competition to grassroots preparations. Beyond a mere structural upgrade, the design signals a deliberate move toward inclusive, contemporary sports infrastructure that meets regional and continental standards.
Sports Infrastructure Momentum Across Uganda
This local funding effort sits within a wider wave of sports infrastructure growth nationwide. Kampala’s Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds) has just undergone a full renovation to international standards, featuring a 35,000-seat capacity and FIFA-certified turf, positioning it as a potential host venue for major tournaments such as AFCON 2027.
Moreover, Afreximbank has signed a $36.4 million financing facility to support the construction of the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira City, which is a reflection of a modern multi-sport facility that will bolster the country’s ability to host CAF- and FIFA-approved competitions. Experts note that these developments go beyond bricks and seats; they reflect a broader commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure.
