Hosting the ceremony at Armani Hotel Dubai, the event brought the prominent global leaders from different niches like sport, science, business, and innovation, to deliver their thoughts for budding athletes. The keynote panel featured dignitaries such as former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp, ex-rugby international Mike Phillips, Paralympic swimmer Jessica Smith OAM, MMA fighter Tarek Suleiman, and elite sprinter Maryam Alfarsi.
Dr. Paul Read, Head of the London Sport Institute in Dubai, emphasised that the Sports Research Centre is “a major step forward for sport science and performance research” in the region and accentuated that applied research in sport science must grow with the rapid expansion of regional sports advancements.
A Rapidly Expanding Sports Infrastructure Demands Research-Led Advancements
Dr. Paul Read’s focus on practical, industry-linked research arrives as global sports infrastructure investment accelerates. The world sports market sits near $600 billion and is growing at roughly 8–9% annually, per PwC and other industry estimates, with the Middle East quickly rising as a top-growth region. GCC governments have boosted spending on stadium upgrades, high-performance centers, and sports-science facilities as part of broader diversification plans. This wave of development underscores the value of specialised institutes like LSID that fuse education, research, and elite performance training.
