Narela to become Delhi’s sporting nerve centre with biggest sports stadium project
DDA starts working on Delhi's biggest sports stadium project in Narela

In efforts to boost sports infrastructure in Delhi, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has started the construction of the biggest sports stadium of the national capital. Narela has been chosen as the location for this project to tackle traffic congestion problems during major sporting events.
The proposed sports complex in Narela is expected to have a cricket stadium with a massive seating capacity of 80,000, exceeding the Jwaharlal Nehru Stadium’s capacity by a third. The sports complex is expected to have facilities for Olympic and non-Olympic-level sports, spanning across 75 acres in sectors G3 and G4 of the Narela subcity.
An integrated sports complex in the national capital
As part of infrastructural upliftment, the proposed sports complex is being planned as a large multidisciplinary facility, able to host major sports events and concerts while also providing high-end training facilities to athletes.
Apart from the cricket stadium, the DDA is planning to develop infrastructure for other sports, including tennis, badminton, football, and other international-level sports within the sports complex in Narela. The complex will have indoor facilities like badminton courts, tennis halls, gymnasiums, and multipurpose halls efficient in training as well as hosting tournaments. Meanwhile, the outdoor infrastructure will include football and cricket grounds, tennis courts, and jogging tracks.
DDA is planning to build a modern-day sports complex in Narela with not just impeccable sports infrastructure but also to develop commercial facilities like retail hotels and commercial working space to expand its revenue sources. The authority also plans to provide parking areas, food courts, landscaped parks, and internal circulation networks to facilitate the movement of athletes, visitors, and staff within the campus.
Sportscape believes the development of Delhi’s biggest sports stadium is a landmark step towards the upgradation of sports infrastructure within the capital city. Once complete, the sports complex in Narela will not only provide exemplary training facilities to athletes but will also be a potential location to host upcoming international tournaments. Infrastructural development projects like these also align with the Indian government’s broader vision to host more international-level multi-sports tournaments like the Olympics.
