Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad at the Center of Pakistan’s South Asian Games 2027 Infrastructure Revamp
Pakistan’s ambitious plan to host the 2027 South Asian Games in Islamabad, with an estimated cost of ₹5 billion, raises critical questions about priorities as the nation grapples with gaps in its basic sports infrastructure.

Taking risks is essential in life, but is it desirable if the project costs ₹5 billion when the basic sports infrastructure of one's country is incapable of supporting its own cricket league ?
This question should have bothered Pakistan as it poses to host the South Asian Games 2027 with a swooping cost of ₹5 billion. The 14th South Asian Games will be held in Pakistan in March 2027, and Islamabad will host 23 sports. The Jinnah Stadium, Islamabad is being targeted as the center of Pakistan’s South Asian Games 2027 Infrastructure revamp.

“We are in consultation with the Ministries of Planning and Finance to finalize the financial framework. Only after their approval will the exact figure be confirmed," a senior official said. But the point of contention here is that the ministry shall also support this extremely risky extravaganza, which might jeopardize the nation’s base financial systems.
Roadmap to the event planning
“These are essential components of hosting a successful international event,” an official emphasized. “Proper training, quality coaching, and world-class hospitality are critical to both performance and reputation.” The Jinnah Stadium shall be revamped to host the upcoming event.
Significance of the event for Pakistan's sports
The successful hosting of this marquee event of the South Asian Games 2027 will not only show off Pakistan's sports skills but also demonstrate how well the nation can organize things and work in collaboration with other neighboring countries. But a majority of this vision depends on the country's stability in the coming times.
Islamabad will be the main hub for the Games, with almost 80% of the 28 sports taking place there over the course of the 12-day event. If everything goes according to the plan, the event could be considered a big step forward for Pakistan sports, bringing back the spirit of 2004 and giving the country a good reputation around the world.
