Pune’s declining sports infrastructure
To start with the failing condition of the Pune-based sports infrastructure, mention should first be made of the Sant Dyaneshwar Sports Facility (Pimpri Chinchwad), which lacks the basic service of a women's washroom.
After building a ₹12 crore worth sports complex in Pimpri Chinchwad, the Pune Municipal Corporation had missed building the road to access the facility, making the entire project lose its relevance.
Another incident of infrastructural abuse was seen when Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, Cabinet Minister Aditi Tatkare and other ministers were seen parking their cars in the Pune Chatrapati Shivaji Stadium.
Struggles of the infrastructural department in the Pune sports ecosystem further include encroachment on the government sports-allocated land and high commercial costs, which increase the inertia of sporting clubs before entering into specific projects. Further lack of care and proper updated maintenance increases the risks of such unfortunate incidents.
